New Outreach Focus on Abortion Pill Reversal

PROLIFE Across AMERICA has started a new outreach to women seeking an abortion pill reversal. We’ve received numerous calls to our Hotline from women who regret taking the first abortion pill and are wondering if they are able to continue their pregnancy. The good news is that some of them are able to – if we connect them to help as soon as possible!

PROLIFE Across AMERICA has partnered with Option Line to have a dedicated Hotline number for women to talk to a medical professional and get connected to a provider in their area that offers the abortion pill reversal process. In 64-68% of women who try the abortion pill reversal process, their pre-born baby is able to be saved!

You may be surprised to hear that a woman may change her mind within minutes or hours after taking the first abortion pill, but many women who face an unplanned pregnancy feel so alone and have a mix of emotions. But our new dedicated Hotline will offer confidential counseling as well as medical advice to reach women like this caller to our Hotline:

  • “I only took the first pill…. can I save my baby? I am so sorry for what I did. Please help me.”

With the abortion pill now accounting for over 60% all abortions in the U.S., the need to get the word out is urgent. We will be running targeted online ads – as most women do not know that an abortion pill reversal may be possible.

Can you help us fund this NEW outreach? We can do more with your help! Perhaps you can sponsor our new dedicated Hotline for one week, or cover the cost of a few of our new online ads.

What is the Abortion Pill?

The abortion pill is also referred to as chemical abortion. It is different from emergency contraception (known as Plan B or the morning-after pill). The abortion pill is actually a set of two pills taken to end a pregnancy that is up to 10 weeks gestation. If a woman has only taken the first pill and is having second thoughts, a reversal may be possible, and is more effective the earlier it is taken after ingesting the first pill.

A woman who calls our Hotline will first go over basic questions with a health professional to determine if a reversal is possible. Then she will be connected with a medical provider in her area who will give her progesterone (a natural hormone) to help counteract the effect of the first pill so she can try to continue her pregnancy.

Again, studies have shown that of those who try the abortion pill reversal process, 64-68% of them are able to continue their pregnancy!

Why an emphasis on the abortion pill?

Use of the abortion pill is surpassing surgical abortion each year. In 2023, the abortion pill accounted for 63% of all abortions in the U.S.—a 10% jump from 2020. This stat surprised us: of facilities that provide abortion, 40% only offer the abortion pill.

Use of it has grown so quickly because it is more widely available, as the FDA keeps removing safety restrictions on its use. In 2021, the FDA removed the restriction to administer the abortion pill in person, which is dangerous because it must only be used before 10 weeks gestation. There are also no requirements for in-person follow-up visits.

Risks and side effects of the abortion pill

Imagine what it is like for a woman to go through the abortion at home all by herself! She is all alone as she undergoes the abortion over the course of 2-3 days. Studies have shown the abortion pill to have four times the complication rate of surgical abortion. And from 2002 to 2015, chemical abortion-related ER visits increased more than 500%. The abortion pill is not “as safe as Tylenol” as they have advertised it to be!

Common side effects of taking the abortion pill include fever, chills, nausea, weakness/dizziness, diarrhea, vomiting, and headaches. More severe complications include prolonged bleeding, pregnancy tissue being left in the uterus, blood clots in the uterus, and infections. In addition to these physical risks, many women suffer emotional trauma after having a chemical abortion and may risk losing their future fertility.
